Industry PhD project title: Enabling transformative governance of innovation at the local scale: the case of urban Australian municipalities striving for net zero.
RACE University and Industry partners: Monash University and City of Monash
Previous education and work background:
I studied a Bachelor of Arts at Melbourne University, majoring in Anthropology and Spanish. I moved to Ireland for my Masters in Race, Ethnicity and Conflict at Trinity College Dublin. Before starting my PhD, I worked with Sustainability Victoria for several years, delivering grants to local governments and small businesses.
What attracted you to the RACE Industry PhD?
Collaboration is critical to net zero, and linking our work at the Monash Net Zero Precinct to the RACE Pathways to Net Zero Precincts work is a no-brainer. I’m looking forward to learning from and sharing knowledge with the RACE program, to tackle this big, wicked problem together.
When you were young, what did you want to be when you were older?
This would change on the daily, though I recall wanting to be an archaeologist looking for fossils.
What do you hope to achieve?
I hope to make a meaningful contribution to Australia’s progress on net zero transitions.
What are you most looking forward to?
Figuring out what comes next, there are so many possibilities for where this PhD could take me and I’m excited at the prospect of using my knowledge to create impact in the world.
What innovation/change would you like to see in 5-10 years’ time?
I’d like to see more transparent and collaborative governance practices, where everyday people feel empowered to problem solve and come up with solutions to the challenges they face.
